Nashville’s Great New Urban Art Project

North Nashville, Tennessee, USA; Jay Jenkins, an art student from Tennessee State University has taken the local neighborhood’s concrete walls and transformed them into beautiful large scale murals.

Having grown up in North Nashville, Jay wanted a way to update the town’s aesthetic appeal and reached out to his mentor, Thaxton Waters. Together, they came up with a team of artists who could display works that addressed race, class and community issues. The series of murals features work by street artists Jenkins and Waters deemed able to address themes important to Nashville.

Always having a huge passion for art, Jay is like a lot of urban young people who have little connection to classic museum art. It’s not art they see around them as they live their lives in urban neighborhoods like in Nashville. It’s clear this new project gives the people of Nashville new exposure to art that’s truly relatable and special.
